CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - The Boston College men's soccer team dropped a heartbreaker to the Knights of Fairleigh Dickinson, 1-0, despite out-shooting the visiting team 21-7, today at the Newton Campus Soccer Field. The Eagles' record falls to 1-2-0 overall and 0-1-0 in conference play.
Play was scoreless through the first half and midway through the second. The lone goal of the game came in the 74th minute when Nadav Gottesman redirected a free kick from Mirza Rusevic taken outside the corner of the box.
Boston College had its chances as it dominated offensive play. The Eagle attack, lead by senior Adam Pfeifer (Newton North/Newton, Mass.), pounded Fairleigh Dickinson keeper Andrew Nucifora with 9 shots on goal.
The final opportunity came in the 89th minute of play when senior Neil Krause (Assumption College/Holliston, Mass.) was taken down in the box resulting in a penalty kick that flew wide-right when taken by junior Pat Haggerty (Lawrence/Lawrenceville, N.J.).
Senior Mike Cardenas (Boston University/Framingham, Mass.) took the loss making two saves in net for the Eagles.
Boston College is back in action this weekend when it travels to State College to take on Penn State Friday night and the Ohio State Buckeyes on Saturday.
