Men's Hockey Picked To Finish First in Hockey East
September 30, 2003 | Men's Hockey
Sept. 30, 2003
For the fourth time in the last six seasons, the Boston College men's hockey team has been picked to finish first overall in Hockey East, as voted upon by the league's nine head coaches. The Eagles garnered the maximum of eight first place votes (coaches may not pick their own team first), signifying a unanimous decision. Picked to finish third last season, the Eagles ended up sharing first place with defending league champion New Hampshire, this year's pick to finish second.
Boston University, the preseason favorite in last year's poll, slipped to No. 3 this season. Maine finished just ahead of Massachusetts for the fourth spot, with Providence picked sixth. The three remaining teams are closely bunched, with UMass Lowell picked seventh, Northeastern eighth and Merrimack ninth.
The Eagles open play this Saturday at Vermont. The puck drops at 3:00 p.m.
