CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - The Boston College men's soccer team defeated opponent Syracuse, 2-1 in a conference battle on Newton Campus Soccer Field today. Senior forward Adam Pfeifer (Newton North/Newton, Mass.) tallied assists on both Eagle goals.
The Eagles improve to 4-4-0 overall and 2-2-0 in BIG EAST play while Syracuse falls to 2-5-2 overall and 0-2-1 in conference action.
Both teams had a number of scoring opportunities in the first half.
Boston College got on the board at the 37 minute mark when freshman Jamen Amato (Pasadena Polytechnic/Pasadena, Calif.) drilled a rebound off a Pfeifer shot into the goal. Pfeifer blew by the Syracuse defense on the right side and fired a low line drive on net. The ball was deflected by goalkeeper Alim Karim right to the boot of Amato. The goal is his second of the season.
Senior Neil Krause (Assumption College/Holliston, Mass.) scored the game-winner as he redirected a cross from Pfeifer into the back of the net at 65:25 in the second half.
The Orangmen did not quit as junior Pat Gallagher registered his first goal of the season. He settled the ball outside the eighteen and fired a shot past senior goalie Mike Cardenas (Boston Univ./Framingham, Mass.) who lost his footing on the play.
Cardenas was able to hold off a frenzied Syracuse attack late in the game to preserve the win. He made seven saves and faced 15 shots on the day.
The Eagles are back in action Wednesday, October 1, when they travel to Providence, R.I. to take on the Friars. Game time is set for 3:30 p.m.
