CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - The Boston College men's soccer team has grabbed the No. 25 spot in the latest poll released by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) after back-to-back wins against Ohio State and Georgetown.
The Eagles (3-3-0, 1-1-0) are ranked No. 2 in New England and have climbed back into the national rankings as they prepare to face rival Connecticut, Wednesday at 7 p.m. in Storrs, Conn., in a rematch of last year's BIG EAST Tournament Championship. BC captured the tournament title beating the Huskies 3-2.
Boston College has benefited from solid contributions from a talented crop of freshmen. Jarryd Goldberg, a frosh from Basking Ridge, N.J., was awarded one of three BIG EAST Rookies of the Week for his game-winning goal (the first of his career) against Georgetown. Assisting on the play was fellow classmate Jamen Amato (Pasadena Polytechnic/Pasadena, Calif.) who knocked in the game-winner versus Ohio State the week before. The goal was the first of Amato's career.
Connecticut, who stands at 2-3-1 and 0-1-1 in conference play, is coming off a 2-0 loss to Rutgers and a scoreless draw against Seton Hall. The Huskies are led by BIG EAST Preseason Offensive Player of the Year Cesar Cuellar, who has tallied one goal and one assist thus far. Adam Schuerman has seen the majority of action between the posts registering two shut outs and a 1.15 goals-against average.
The Huskies hold the series edge against the Eagles going 21-7-2, despite dropping the BIG EAST Tournament Championship, 3-2 last year.
The Comcast Network (CN 8) will air the game on tape delay this Friday, September 26, at 8 p.m.
