CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - Boston College will face nine teams that qualified for the 2003 NCAA Women's Basketball Tournament. In addition to those NCAA-experienced teams, the 16-game BIG EAST slate highlights the 2003-04 Boston College women's basketball schedule. The schedule was released today by Boston College director of athletics Gene DeFilippo.
The non-conference schedule features two in-season tournaments as well as a pair of new opponents for the Eagles. The home slate is highlighted by tilts with local area rival Holy Cross, Wisconsin, Sacred Heart, Oakland, and UNC-Greensboro. The road slate will take Boston College to Colorado State (for a tournament with the Rams, Alabama, and Long Beach State), Siena, and George Washington.
After two exhibition games in early November, the Eagles will open their season with a Nov. 22 home game against Oakland. They will close out the month of November with a trip to the Coors Rocky Mountain Invitational where they will face SEC foe Alabama and either Colorado State or Long Beach State.
Boston College will have four home games and three road games in December, highlighted by a Dec. 30 match-up with Wisconsin. The Eagles will participate in the Brown Classic Dec. 6-7, facing NCAA participant Liberty in the first round and either Brown or New Hampshire in the second.
Boston College's BIG EAST schedule begins with a Jan. 2 date against Villanova. The Eagles will face Virginia Tech (Jan. 24) and Notre Dame (Jan. 31) on the road while tackling Miami (Jan. 10) and Rutgers (Feb. 7) at home. This season, Boston College will play a home-and-home series against Providence, Georgetown, and defending national champion Connecticut. BC will face the Huskies in the Harford Civic Center on January 17 and then the Huskies will make their return trip to Conte Forum on February 21.
The BIG EAST Championship will be held at the Hartford Civic Center March 6-9, 2003. It is the first of a three-year contract. The Hartford venue will mark the first time in league history the women's tournament will not be held on the campus of a member institution.
