Katie King Named Women's Ice Hockey Assistant Coach

Katie King, who has earned two Olympic medals as a member of the U.S. Women's National Ice Hockey Team, has been named assistant women's ice hockey coach at Boston College, according to an announcement made by Boston College women's hockey coach Tom Mutch.
King, a 1997 graduate of Brown University, captured a gold medal at the 1998 Olympic Games in Nagano, Japan. She tied with three other players for the Team USA scoring lead, tallying eight points in six games. King also earned a silver medal at the 2002 Olympic Games in Salt Lake City.
Mutch, who assumed the head coaching position at Boston College two months ago, served as Team USA's assistant coach at the Nagano Games.
As a member of Team USA, King also participated in four IIHF Women's World Championships (1997, 1999, 2000, 2001).
King was a two-sport star at Brown. She twice earned the school's Bessie Rudd Award, given annually to the student-athlete who demonstrates outstanding leadership and dedication. On the ice, King remains the Bears' all-time scoring leader with 206 points (123 goals, 83 assists) in 100 career games. She was a three-time Ivy League Player of the Year selection (1995, 1996 and 1997) and one-time ECAC Player of the Year (1997). King was a two-year team captain.
On the softball field, King gained Ivy League Player of the Year honors as a junior and league Pitcher of the Year honors as a senior. She served as team captain each of her last three seasons.
A 1993 graduate of Salem (N.H.) High School, King earned All-America softball honors for the Blue Devils.
In addition to her playing experience, King has worked at the Superskills (Mass.) Hockey Camps and Florida Panthers Hockey School. She served as a coach, lecturer and instructor for power skating, stick handling and dry-land training.
