Andrea Leonard, who served the last five years on the volleyball staff at the University of New Hampshire, has been named head women's volleyball coach at Boston College, according to an announcement made by Boston College director of athletics Gene DeFilippo.
Leonard was an assistant coach for the Wildcats from 1998-2001, before assuming the role of associate head coach in 2002. During her tenure at New Hampshire, Leonard assisted in all practice and match preparations, while also coordinating the program's recruiting, academic and compliance efforts. The Wildcats won America East titles in 1998 and 2002, earning NCAA Tournament berths in each of those seasons.
"We welcome Andrea to the BC Athletics staff," DeFilippo said. "She has been successful at every point of her volleyball playing and coaching career. Our women's volleyball program is in good hands."
Prior to joining the staff at New Hampshire, Leonard served two years (1996 and 1997) as assistant coach at Ferris State. The Bulldogs finished with a 19-12 mark in 1996 and were ranked 25th in the final AVCA Division II Coaches Poll.
An active member of the American Volleyball Coaches Association, Leonard is a 1993 graduate of Northern Michigan University, where she was a four-year setter and outside hitter on the volleyball team (1988-1991). In 1991, the Wildcats won the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference title and advanced to the NCAA Tournament's quarterfinal round. After completing her playing career, she stayed with the program and assumed student assistant coaching duties in 1992.
"I'm very excited to join the Boston College athletic staff," Leonard said. "I look to build a competitive and successful volleyball program here."
