PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- Junior back Guy Melamed (Norfit, Israel) and junior midfielder Bill Arnault (Clay, N.Y.) were named to the Preseason All-BIG EAST squad, the league announced on Thursday. Melamed was a third-team All-America and all-conference first team pick in 2002, while Arnault was an All-BIG EAST second-team selection.
Boston College was chosen to finish fourth in the 2003 BIG EAST Preseason Poll, as picked by the coaches. St. John's got the nod for the top spot receiving five first-place votes from the league's 11 head coaches. Notre Dame and Connecticut rounded out the top three.
Head Coach Ed Kelly returns eight starters from last year's BIG EAST regular-season and tournament championship team. The Eagles compiled an 8-2 conference record and an 18-5 record overall while advancing to the NCAA Tournament Quarterfinals.
Boston College begins regular season and conference play on August 30 at Pittsburgh.
