Boston, Mass. -- The Boston College softball team posted a 1-0 shutout over cross-town rival Boston University Thursday at B.U. Softball Field. The win halted BU's 12-game win streak, including six straight shutouts. With the victory, Boston College improves to 25-14 overall.
Boston College scored all it would need in the top half of the first inning, scoring a single run that would stand for the remainder of the game. With one out, Jen Asbury (Livermore, Calif.) reached on a throwing error by Tiffany Finateri. Cara Blumfield (West Hills, Calif.) followed with a single through the left side. With two outs, Erin Mackey (River Forest, Ill.) doubled to left center, scoring Asbury.
Kim Ryan (Bay Shore, N.Y.) pitched the complete-game win for the Eagles. She collected 15 strikeouts on the afternoon, allowing just four hits and two walks. Ryan improves to 12-3 overall and has won her last 10 games.
Boston College returns to Shea Field this weekend, hosting Notre Dame (Saturday) and Syracuse (Sunday) in BIG EAST action. Both doubleheaders are scheduled to begin at 12:00 p.m.
In rescheduled action, BC will host Rutgers on Tuesday, April 29 in a doubleheader beginning at 2:00 p.m. The Massachusetts game, originally scheduled for April 29, will be played at 1:00 p.m. April 30. The Eagles will wrap up the home portion of their schedule with a May 1 tilt against Harvard.
