#20 Rutgers Tops Women's Lacrosse, 11-9

PISCATAWAY, N.J. - The 20th-ranked Rutgers women's lacrosse team (10-3, 2-2 BIG EAST) won its fourth game in a row on Saturday afternoon, defeating Boston College (6-6, 1-4 BIG EAST), 11-9, in BIG EAST play on Yurcak Field.
RU took a 2-0 lead early in the first half when junior Maggie Bopp and senior Melissa Mosey each scored on free-position shots. BC's Meggie O'Neill brought the Eagles within one with an unassisted goal at 19:34, but RU answered with a four-goal run. Claire Grooms scored with 15:50 remaining in the first half. Sophomore Lisa Savage scored when classmate Andrea Leininger brought the ball up from the opposite end of the field and passed it in to her, making the score 6-1 RU.
With just under five minutes to play in the half, Courtney Legath doubled the Eagles' score with an unassisted goal. RU junior Jessica Mosey gave Rutgers a five-goal lead at the half (7-2) when she fired a free-position shot into the cage with 23 seconds remaining.
Rutgers opened the second half with a goal, but the Eagles answered with a three-goal run. Jackie Yovankin scored back-to-back goals for BC, cutting RU's lead to four (8-4). Carley St. Lucia capped the run for BC with an unassisted goal at 15:07, making the score 8-5 RU. RU's Slotman scored her third goal of the afternoon 12 seconds later, returning Rutgers lead to four, but Susie Breaznell scored a free-position goal for BC in return. After a free-position goal from RU's Wojdyla, BC's O'Neill and St. Lucia scored their second goals of the day to bring the Eagles within two (10-8). Slotman netted goal number four on the day giving RU an 11-8 lead, but with 21 seconds left, Breaznell scored to cut the final margin to 11-9.
Sophomore Lyndsey Feldman made 10 saves in the cage for RU, while Tara McKennett made three saves for BC.
The Eagles will face cross-state rival Holy Cross on Wednesday, April 23 in a 4 p.m. contest in Worcester, Mass.
