
Women's Tennis Slips By Florida Atlantic, 4-3

BOCA RATON, Fla. - The women's tennis team won a nailbiter Friday afternoon, defeating Florida Atlantic, 4-3, at FAU Courts.
Coming into the match, FAU was ranked 72nd while BC was 75th in the ITA poll. The match held up to its billing as the two teams exchanged blows for five hours and fifteen minutes until finally BC slipped by. The Eagles won the last and decisive match in a tiebreaker. Overall, the match had four singles matches reach the third set, two of which were decided by a tiebreaker.
The Eagles (7-6) found themselves up 2-0 early after winning the doubles point and the first singles match. At No. 2 doubles, junior Allison Ashley (Chestnut Hill, Mass.) and freshman Szilvia Szegedi (Dumakeszi, Hungary) beat Tania Riverand and Maria Aguirre-Gomez, 8-6, while at No. 3, sophomores Emily Yeomans (Lafayette, Calif.) and Morgan Landes (Huron, Ohio) doubled up Stephanie Beaulieu and Krystel Borg, 8-4.
The Lady Owls (8-3) won the next two matches to even it at 2-2.
Meanwhile, at No. 1, Szegedi and Alena Dvorakova were in a battle that caused both players to receive treatment for symptoms resulting from the hot conditions. In the end, Dvorakova clawed her way to a 6-1, 2-6, 7-6 victory, giving the Lady Owls a 3-2 lead.
The Eagles mustered one last charge and went on to win the last two matches. The clincher was Landes' 7-6, 4-6, 7-6 triumph over Aguirre-Gomez.
BC wraps up its Spring Break trip Sunday, March 9 with a 10 a.m. match against American in Coral Gables, Fla.
