Lacrosse Victorious in Season Opener

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - After the cancellation of its originally scheduled opener at Hofstra on Thursday, the Boston College women's lacrosse team (1-0) got the 2002-03 campaign underway, squeezing out a 13-12 victory over La Salle University (0-2) in Philadelphia, Pa. on Saturday afternoon.
La Salle hosted the Eagles on Temple University's Geasey Field. The visitors dominated the first half of play, outscoring the Explorers, 8-5. BC held on to escape with a narrow 13-12 margin of victory, to open the season on a high note.
Co-captain Meggie O'Neill led the offense with four goals. Carley St. Lucia and Courtney Legath each put three past the La Salle keeper, while Susie Breaznell, Caitlin Bracken and Kathleen Gallagher each tallied a goal a piece.
Legath assisted on three of those scores, while St. Lucia and O'Neill put a mark in the assist column as well. Goalkeeper Michelle Lawson recorded the win for Boston College.
The Eagles will host Harvard University at 3:30 on Wednesday, March 12 in their regular season home opener at Alumni Stadium.
