CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - The men's tennis team looked sharp in its first BIG EAST match of the year, soundly defeated Georgetown, 6-1, on Saturday, March 29 at the Flynn Recreation Complex.
The Eagles (5-7, 1-0 BIG EAST) won seven of nine matches on the day, including a pair of three-setters, at Nos. 2 and 5.
The Hoyas fall to 0-7 overall, 0-3 in conference play.
BC took the doubles point courtesy of wins at Nos. 1 and 3. Juniors Justin Slattery (Hampton, N.H.) and Brad Anderson (Edina, Minn.) beat Marc Lohser and Erik Bildman, 8-5, while sophomores Chris McCoy (Pittsburgh, Pa.) and Bob Murray (Kenner, La.) defeated Chad Mihalick and Chris Kindler by an identical 8-5 score.
Anderson, Slattery and McCoy won their singles matches at Nos. 1, 2 and 3, respectively. Slattery fought back from a set down to beat Lohser, 3-6, 6-1, 6-0.
Junior Ross Pytko (Oxford, Mass.) pulled out a third-set tiebreaker at No. 5 over Eric Conrad, 6-2, 1-6, 1-0 (10-5). Freshman Kiernan Laughlin (Phoenix, Ariz.) rounded out the Eagle winners with a victory at No. 6.
Boston College next visits Boston University on Sunday, March 30 at 9 a.m.
