CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - Junior Tony Voce scored two goals while sophomore Dave Spina added one goal and one assist as Boston College defeated Northeastern (9-19-4, 4-15-2 HOCKEY EAST), 5-2, Friday night in front of 5,807 at Kelley Rink.
BC's win, coupled with New Hampshire's tie at UMass Lowell, gives both schools 31 points atop the HOCKEY EAST standings. Boston College (20-8-3, 15-5-1) has one game in hand over the Wildcats.
After junior Brett Peterson scored the game's first tally less than two minutes into the contest, classmate Ty Hennes used an unassisted goal to give the Eagles a 2-0 advantage at 5:17 of the first period. Hennes intercepted a Northeastern pass on the BC blue line and streaked into the Husky zone on a breakaway, beating Northeastern goalie Mike Gilhooly on the backhand for his eighth goal of the season.
Spina provided the eventual gamewinner at 10:58 of the first period on his 16th goal of the season.
Senior Joe Mastronardi got the Huskies on the board at 1:35 of the second period before Voce gave the Eagles a 4-1 advantage. Following freshman Joe Santilli's goal at 17:34 of the second frame, Voce closed the scoring for BC with his 16th of the season.
Junior Ben Eaves registered two assists in the win.
Sophomore Matti Kaltiainen made 19 saves in net for BC, including two breakaway stops on Northeastern's Mike Ryan. Gilhooly made 24 saves for the Huskies.
Boston College is 3-0 against the Huskies this season, while winning the last eight games between the two schools at Kelley Rink.
The two schools conclude their regular-season series Saturday at Northeastern's Matthews Arena. Game time is 7 p.m.
