
Women's Tennis Slams Nationally Ranked Virginia Tech

NOTRE DAME, Ind. - The women's tennis team kept its perfect spring record intact Saturday, downing No. 71 Virginia Tech, 5-2.
The Eagles won five of the six singles matches to claim the victory. They got straight-set victories from their top three players -- freshman Szilvia Szegedi (Dumakeszi, Hungary), sophomore Nida Waseem (Karachi, Pakistan) and junior Allison Ashley (Chestnut Hill, Mass.) -- as well as their No. 6, junior Emily Hellberg (Spring Lake, Mich.).
The hardest-fought win came from sophomore Amy Molden (El Cajon, Calif.) at No. 5. She battled Ginger Lowdermilk to a third-set tie-breaker, eventually taking the match, 2-6, 6-4, 1-0(9).
The Hokies won two of the three doubles matches. Ashley and Szegedi took care of Lowdermilk and Kristen Stubbs at No. 2 doubles, 8-3.
The team faces another stiff test Sunday at 10 a.m. when it goes up against No. 21 Notre Dame.
