SYRACUSE, N.Y. - The Boston College women's basketball team (15-4/7-1) rolled to an 82-63 victory over Syracuse Saturday afternoon at Manley Field House in Syracuse, N.Y., behind the hot shooting and solid guard play of Amber Jacobs (Clarks Summit, Pa.), Jessalyn Deveny (Westford, Mass.), and Clare Droesch (Belle Harbor, N.Y.).
BC earned an impressive 43-20 rebounding advantage the hard way - by not missing shots. The Eagles outside shooters picked apart the Syracuse zone, shooting 65.87 percent (75.7 percent from behind the arc) in the first half. The hot shooting gave the Eagles a 16-point advantage at the break.
Syracuse jumped out to an early advantage with two quick baskets, but the Orangewomen would never lead again. Over the next 16 minutes, the Eagles outscored their opponent 43-18 behind Droesch, who scored all 11 of her points in the spurt (4-4, 3-3 from three-point range).
The second half began in much the same style. With 12 minutes remaining, BC cruised to a 26 point lead behind the hot hand of Jacobs, who scored 16 of her game-high 25 in the second stanza.
Syracuse would mount an 11-0 run and cut the BC lead to 13 on three different occasions. Jacobs sealed the victory, however, with six free throws and a lay-up in the final two minutes.
Senior forward Becky Gottstein (Albany, N.Y.) earned her sixth double double of the season with 14 points and 13 rebounds. In addition to 25 points, Jacobs filled the stat sheet with eight assists and three steals in 35 minutes. Deveny added 21 points and nine rebounds.
April Jean was the high scorer for Syracuse with 17 points, including 11 after the break.
Boston College will look to defend its undefeated conference road record when the team takes on nationally-ranked Villanova Wednesday. The Eagles will return home to face No. 2 Connecticut Saturday at 12 noon in a game to be televised on FOX Sports.
