CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. (AP) - Craig Smith scored 14 points and grabbed 12 rebounds to lead Boston College to a 64-51 win over Holy Cross Tuesday night in the 107th meeting between the schools.
Uka Agbai, who suffered a neck injury in last year's game between the teams and missed the remainder of the season, had 15 points for the Eagles (5-0). Jared Dudley added 12 points and 10 rebounds.
Kevin Hamilton paced the Crusaders (2-2) with 11 points.
The Eagles went 30 for 42 from the free throw line. Holy Cross was only 8 for 15. Both teams shot under 40 percent from the floor.
BC took charge at the end of a first half filled with poor shooting by each team. Leading 22-19, the Eagles closed the half with a 10-0 run. Smith had four points and Louis Hinnant closed the spree with a 3-pointer.
Neither team shot over 40 percent in the opening half, with Holy Cross hitting just 26 percent (6 for 23) and BC 36 (9 of 25).
The Eagles maintained a lead between eight and 12 points early in the second half until the Crusaders cut it to 43-38 on Keith Simmons' basket with 9:46 to play.
BC then regained control by scoring the next eight points to push its lead to 51-38 on Dudley's free throw with 6:15 left.
The Eagles have won 13 of the last 14 meetings between the intrastate rivals. But Holy Cross, which won last year's game 71-70, owns a 57-50 advantage in the series that dates back to the first game on Jan. 9, 1906.
Game Notes: Craig Smith and Jared Dudley both posted point-rebound double-doubles in tonight's game. The last time two BC players recorded double-doubles in the same contest was on Dec. 15, 2002 against Stony Brook. Craig Smith tallied 28 points and 11 rebounds, while Ryan Sidney notched 14 points and 11 rebounds ... BC attempted 42 free throws, the most by a BC team in one game since the Eagles attempted 43 free throws against Youngstown State on Dec. 9, 2000 ... BC made 30 free throws, the highest single-game total since Dec. 10, 1997 (31 vs. Fairfield).
