Boston College junior goalie Matti Kaltiainen (Espoo, Finland) was named Hockey East's ITECH Goaltender of the Month, the conference announced on Tuesday. The big keeper helped the Eagles to a record of 6-0-2 in November, which included tilts with three top-10 opponents.
In eight November games, Kaltiainen posted a goals against average of 1.55 and a save percentage of .908. He allowed more than two goals just once in November and made a game-saving stop on an odd-man rush by New Hampshire's Steve Saviano in overtime to preserve the 2-2 tie. His only other non-victory came when he allowed no goals in a relief appearance, a 3-3 tie with Merrimack.
Kaltiainen, who was last season's Hockey East goaltending champion, has a goals against average of 1.89 this season, to go along with an .897 save percentage. He has allowed more than two goals just three times in BC's 14 games.
The second-ranked Eagles will be back in action on Friday, December 5 in Kelley Rink to take on the 15th-ranked Boston University Terriers. The game will begin at 8:00 p.m. and will be televised live on CSTV.
