Stephen Gionta Named Hockey East Defensive Player Of The Week

Boston College sophomore right wing Stephen Gionta (Rochester, N.Y.) earned Hockey East Defensive Player of the Week honors, the conference announced on Monday.

The speedy Gionta recorded an assist in BC's 4-1 win over Dartmouth on Tuesday and in Saturday's 4-2 victory over Northeastern, he tallied his third shorthanded goal of the season, scoring with his team playing two men down. Gionta was instrumental in leading a penalty-killing unit that was 7-for-7 this week. He finished plus-4 for the week. Gionta has recorded at least one point in five straight games.

Gionta and the Eagles will be back in action on Friday, December 5 at 8:00 p.m. when the Boston University Terriers visit Kelley Rink. The game will be broadcast live on College Sports Television (CSTV).
