Three high-school standouts -- 6-foot-7-inch forward Akida McLain, 6-foot-6-inch forward Gordon Watt and 6-foot-9-inch forward Sean Williams -- have signed national letters of intent to play basketball at Boston College, according to an announcement by Boston College head coach Al Skinner. All three will enroll at BC in September 2004 and begin play during the 2004-05 season.
McLain averaged 12.0 points and 10.0 rebounds per game as a junior at Penn Hills (Pa.) High School in 2002-03. He led the Indians to the WPIAL Class AAAA title. This past summer, he impressed coaches at both the Nike and Five-Star camps, before helping the Southpointe Gold AAU team advance to the final 16 of the junior division national championship in late July.
Watt averaged 13.0 points and 9.1 rebounds per game at Evanston (Ill.) Township last winter. He earned Class AA All-State "Special Mention" accolades after helping the Wildkits earn a fourth-place finish in the 2003 state tournament. He also competes with the Illinois Wolves AAU team.
Williams plays his schoolboy ball at Mansfield (Texas) High School. He also plays in the Dallas Mustangs AAU program. Williams chose Boston College over many schools, including Texas and Oklahoma.
