CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - As volleyball gets ready for the two final matches of the season, BIG EAST members Rutgers and Seton Hall, the teams could hold its best overall record since as far back as 1991.
The Eagles, 17-10, recorded their last winning record in 2000 (18-11, 5-7 BIG EAST) and before that had not had a winning record prior to 1991. Andrea Leonard, head coach of the volleyball team, has made a big impact her rookie year. The Eagles were able to defeat nine teams 3-0, and pulled a big upset against BIG EAST rival Syracuse just a few weeks ago 3-2. They are currently ranked 29th in the nation for service aces. It is the first time the Eagle squad has been consistently ranked in an area for a season.
The Eagles haev been serious competitors throughout the season. Freshman outside hitter Alison Shepp has stepped up big, leading the team in attack percentage at .338. Shepp earned Rookie of the Week and Co-Rookie of the Week this season.
Allison Anderson has been a major contributor all season long. Her attack in front of the net has earned the Eagles a lot of points. Anderson, a freshman, leads BC in kills with an overall total of 324. She has contributed in 91 of 98 games this season.
The Eagles will be working to pull out a double win to finish off the season Saturday and Sunday. The last time the Eagles won two conference matches in a row was in 2000. BC will look to topple Rutgers and Seton Hall down in New Jersey.
