Boston College forwards Joe Rooney and Tony Voce were both recognized by Hockey East this week for their performances on Saturday in BC's 5-3 win at Vermont. Rooney was named the Hockey East Superskills Rookie of the Week, while Voce earned CCM Player of the Week honors.
Rooney, playing in his first career game, scored the first goal of his collegiate career and it proved to be the game-winner. Early in the third period, Rooney swooped in behind a Vermont defenseman, stole the puck and fired a wrist shot into the goal to put BC ahead 4-0.
Voce, a senior and the team's leading goal scorer last season, picked up where he left off, scoring three goals for his third career hat trick. Voce has played two games at Vermont's Gutterson Fieldhouse and both times he recorded hat tricks.
The Eagles will return to action this weekend at the Ice Breaker Tournament in East Lansing, Mich. Boston College will play 15th-ranked Minnesota-Duluth on Friday at 5:00 p.m. and will face either host Michigan State or Findlay on Saturday.
