CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - Volleyball took their second BIG EAST win of the season Friday night in the weekend opener against Virginia Tech. The Eagles (12-4, 2-1 BIG EAST) played a strong match against the fourth ranked (conference) Hokies (8-9, 2-1 BIG EAST).
BC took the first match, closing the 30 point mark at Tech's 23. The Hokies bounced back in game two, catching the Eagles off guard and pulling the W out 30-19.
The Eagles made a turn-around for game three, and made adjustments on offense and defense. Although Virginia Tech clicked at the heels of BC, the Eagles were able to put it all out and take games three and four, 30-25 and 30-22.
The offense combined to shutdown Va. Tech, handing them their first conference loss of the season. Allison Anderson and Alison Shepp both put up big offensive numbers. Anderson nailed 19 kills and hit .241 on the court. The team leader in kills, Anderson had 54 opportunities to make a play and her effort made a big impact on the match. Shepp had 17 kills and hit .375.
Everyone stepped up big on defense in Cassell Coliseum. Four players had 10+ digs, and the team combined for 14 block assists. Katie Andersen led the pack with 13 digs. The junior outside hitter also recorded two aces from the backcourt. The Eagles kept Va. Tech hitting .204, Annie Spicer lead the Hokies with 17 kills.
The Eagles will travel to Miami on Sunday to take on the Hurricanes at 2 p.m.
