Chestnut Hill, Mass. - The 15th-ranked Boston College field hockey team posted a 5-0 shutout victory over area rival Holy Cross Sunday afternoon at Alumni Stadium on the campus of Boston College. With the win, BC improved to 10-3 overall (3-0 BIG EAST). The Crusaders fell to 9-3 overall (3-0 Patriot League).
The Eagles scored early and often, posting four of their five goals in the first half of play. Sophomore Sara York (Watertown, Mass.) scored the game's first goal at the 15:29 mark to give BC the lead it would never relinquish. Senior Kim French (Shrewsbury, Mass.) would add an insurance goal while the local duo each scored one more time before intermission for the 4-0 lead.
In the second half, Kerri Kulesza (Spencer, Mass.) added her team's fifth goal with just under 10 minutes in regulation. Lauren Hill (Bethesda, Md.) and Jillian Savoy (Lexington, Mass.) combined in goal for BC's seventh shutout of the season.
The Eagles will next travel to BIG EAST foe Villanova Saturday, October 18. The team will return to Alumni Stadium on October 24 for a 1:00 p.m. game with Rutgers.
