Villanova, Pa. - The 12th-ranked Boston College field hockey team was upset by Villanova, 4-2, Saturday afternoon in BIG EAST action at Villanova Stadium. With the loss, the Eagles fall to 10-4 overall and 3-1 in the conference. The Wildcats stand at 9-5 overall and also 3-1 in the league. The loss marked BC's fourth consecutive to rival Villanova.
The Villanova offense wasted little time in getting on the scoreboard. Freshman Sara Schmidt scored less than five minutes into the contest on an assist from Christina Lugones to give Villanova an early advantage. BC, however, would answer right back as sophomore Sara York (Watertown, Mass.) scored seven minutes later to tie the game.
Villanova's Leah Lisausky cashed in on a penalty corner to take the 2-1 lead. The game was scoreless for the final 20 minutes of the half, giving allowing Villanova to take that 2-1 edge into the intermission.
Rory Rogers increased the lead to 3-1, knocking in a pass from Sarah Francis in front of the goal. Following Rogers' score, the Boston College offense went on the attack. The Eagles tallied 12 shots in the second half and 15 penalty corners, but managed just a single goal, by Virginia Drozd (Richmond, Va.) with 14 minutes left off a penalty corner.
The Eagles will return to action at Harvard Wednesday night at 7:00 p.m. Their final home game of the regular season will be Friday against Rutgers at 7:00 p.m.
