Women's Hockey Overwhelmed by Harvard

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. -- The Eagles did all they could to hold on, but No. 1 Harvard University (15-1-0) proved why it is the top team in the nation at Kelley Rink on Tuesday evening, as it defeated Boston College (9-12-3) by a score of 17-2.
Harvard's Julie Chu began the scoring just 23 seconds into the affair. The Eagles knotted the score at one, when Jaclyn Kryzak netted a pass from Kristin Blundo at 6:41. Jill McInnis was also credited with an assist on the goal, to give her 13 this season.
Just nine seconds later, however, the Crimson opened the flood gates, getting the first of six more goals before the close of the session. BC's leading scorer, Alaina Clark, knocked the puck home in the midst of the rout, but the Eagles could not compete with the Crimson scoring surplus.
Harvard managed 10 more goals in the game, with six in the second and four in the third period. The Crimson's 17 goals, the most it has scored this season, came from six different players. Chu led the scoring drive with four goals and four assists, while teammate Jennifer Botterill had a stellar performance, compiling three goals and six assists on the night.
BC's two goaltenders faced a total of 58 shots, recording 41 saves in the barrage.
The next contest for Boston College is the first round of the Beanpot Tournament. Harvard will host the women's tournament at its Bright Hockey Center. The Eagles will face Northeastern University at 4 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 4.
