BOSTON - The men's and women's track teams competed Friday and Saturday at the Terrier Invitational, hosted by Boston University at the BU Track & Tennis Center.
The big news for Boston College was the 5,000-meter performance of senior Julie Spolidoro (Duxbury, Mass./Duxbury). Her time of 16.02.99 was more than 31 seconds faster than that of the collegiate runner-up in the race, and it established a new school mark in the event. The old standard of 16:13.55 was set by sophomore Maria Cicero at last year's Terrier Classic. Spolidoro's clocking, which is the second fastest in the country this year, automatically qualifies her for the NCAA Championships.
Freshman Jessica Fazekas (Closter, N.J./Northern Valley Regional at Demarest) continued her ascent up Boston College's charts as her mark of 45-8 in the 20-pound weight throw is the second best all-time at BC.
Other impressive showings were turned in by junior Jennifer Kramer (Loudonville, N.Y./Colonie Central), whose 3,000 time of 9:40.27 ranks fourth in the conference this season, and freshman Anne Hessberg (Slingerlands, N.Y./Holy Names), who took fourth in the 1,000, crossing the finish line in 2:58.59.
On the men's side, sophomore Drew Bouchard (San Diego, Calif./St. Augustine) came in fifth in the 5,000 open race, clocking a 14:37.79. That time is the fourth fastest this year in the BIG EAST. Senior Shawn Wallace (Wakefield, Mass./Wakefield) ran a solid 3,000, finishing in 8:24.51, which also puts him fourth in the conference.
Both squads will compete Friday, Jan. 31 at the Northeastern Invitational. The action gets underway at 6 p.m.
