WAKEFIELD, Mass. - The Hockey East Association announced its players of the month for the month of December 2002 on Thursday. Boston College's Alison Quandt was selected as the conference's ITECH Rookie of the Month.
A freshman out of Wayland, Mass., Quandt has made an immediate impact for the Boston College women's hockey program. Taking over for injured teammate Lisa Davis in the nets, she has started the past six games for the Eagles. She stepped in to contribute four wins to a team five-game win streak that spanned Nov. 12 to Dec. 7, including a 6-0 blanking of Rensselaer in her first collegiate start.
During the month of December, she continued to play well. She allowed six goals, making a career-high 37 saves, when peppered with 43 shots against defending champ Providence on Dec. 7, but allowed just one goal each in her other two games, including a vital 32-save showing to close the month with a 1-1 tie against UConn.
Head Coach Tom Babson said of Quandt's performance, "She's just jumped right in as a freshman and we couldn't be happier. She undoubtedly makes our team better - as the starter, the backup, or in practice. It's a classic Tom Brady scenario. Our number one starter goes down and we've got someone great to pick up the slack. She has exceeded our expectations."
Boston College will face Yale University on Friday, Jan. 3 at Kelley Rink. Face-off is slated for noon.
