Softball Tabbed Sixth In Preseason BIG EAST Poll

Providence, R.I. - The Boston College softball team was selected to finish in sixth place in the 2003 BIG EAST Preseason Softball Poll, as picked by the coaches. Notre Dame, the defending BIG EAST champion, was selected as the favorite to win the regular season title in 2003, receiving nine of 11 first-place votes. Villanova and Virginia Tech each had one first-place vote.
Notre Dame received 99 points for the No. 1 spot in the 2003 BIG EAST Softball preseason coaches poll. Last year, the Irish captured their third BIG EAST Championship title in four years. The Eagles were picked to finish sixth, after ending the 2002 season with an 11-9 record and a share of fifth place.
In 2002, Boston College finished with a 26-26 overall mark (11-9 BIG EAST). Head coach Jen Finley and the Eagles return nine of 10 starters, including All-American shortstop Cara Blumfield (West Hills, Calif.).
