CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - Junior Ben Eaves tallied one goal and three assists to lead No. 10 Boston College to a 6-3 win over HOCKEY EAST foe UMass Lowell, Friday night in front of 5,509 at Kelley Rink. The win improves BC to 11-5-3 (7-3-1 HEA), while the River Hawks fall to 8-11-1 (1-9-0 HEA).
Eaves' four-point night vaulted him to 102 career points in only 79 games as an Eagle. Eaves becomes the 59th player in BC history to tally 100+ points - he is currently in 59th place on BC's all-time scoring list.
Sophomore Andrew Alberts opened the scoring on a power-play goal only 1:19 seconds into the game. Alberts unloaded a slap shot from the point after collecting a pass from junior J.D. Forrest for the tally.
Junior Tony Voce increased the BC lead to 2-0 at 15:34 of the first period, taking a pass from freshman Stephen Gionta in the UMass Lowell zone and one-timed the puck into the net.
Sophomore Ryan Shannon - who returned after missing three games while with Team USA at the World Junior Championships - gave the Eagles a commanding 3-0 lead on his seventh goal of the season.
Eaves recorded an assist on each of BC's first three goals.
After the River Hawks registered their first goal of the night, the Eagles responded with two goals by freshman Chris Collins and senior A.J. Walker to take their largest lead at 5-1.
After BC surrendered its second goal of the night, Ben Eaves increased the Eagles' lead to 6-2 on the power-play.
The Eagles have won 17 of the last 20 meetings with the River Hawks.
Boston College sophomore Matti Kaltiainen made 14 saves, while Chris Davidson made 22 saves for UMass Lowell.
The Eagles return to action tomorrow night when they travel to Lowell to face UMass Lowell at 7 p.m. at Tsongas Arena. The game will be broadcast live on Fox Sports New England.
