Volleyball Team Defeated by Lamar

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - The Boston College volleyball team suffered its first loss of the 2002 season Friday afternoon. The Eagles (3-1) dropped the first match of the Mississippi State Tournament to Lamar (3-1) by a score of 3-0 in Starkville, Miss.
Boston College came into the tournament undefeated, but played a tough match against Lamar. The Lady Cardinals came out strong, winning the first two games by scores of 30-17 and 30-19. The Eagles fought hard in the third game, keeping it close, but fell short 29-31.
Sophomore outside hitter Liz Aron led the Eagles, registering a double-double with 10 kills and 12 digs. Senior Lauren Schwer contributed 15 digs and sophomore Jessica Brizzolara had 27 assists. Lamar's Natalie Sarver registered a double-double with 12 kills and 10 digs.
Boston College will take the court again tomorrow to face Samford at noon and tournament host Mississippi State University at 4:00.
