Chestnut Hill, Mass. - The Boston College field hockey team collected its second win in as many tries with a 3-1 victory over in-state rival Massachusetts Wednesday night in a non-conference match-up at Alumni Stadium on the campus of Boston College. With the win, Boston College improves to 2-0 overall. The Minutewomen fall to 0-3.
The hosts scored twice in the first half, breaking into the scoring column just over five minutes into the game. Junior Kim French (Shrewsbury, Mass.) redirected a Lauren Schultz (New Milford, Conn.) shot for the game's first goal. Nearly 14 minutes later, BC struck again behind a corner play goal from Virginia Drozd (Richmond, Va.). Sophomore Kerri Doherty (Lynnfield, Mass.) assisted on the goal that would eventually stand as the game winner.
In the second half, freshman Bronwen Kelly (Mississauga, Ontario) notched her first career goal, giving the Eagles the final 3-1 margin. BC outshot Massachusetts, 14-1. The Minutewomen's Danielle Carrier connected for a score on her team's lone shot of the game.
The Eagles will remain at home for their next two games. They will return to action Friday evening as they host Quinnipiac in a 7 p.m. contest in Alumni Stadium.
