CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - The Boston College volleyball team defeated Gardner-Webb University 3-0 in their second match in two days at the Eagle Challenge. Due to a change in schedule, the Eagles (7-5) and Lady Bulldogs (1-14) met twice in the tournament. The Eagles were victorious in both matches.
Today's match began with Boston College dominating the first game. Senior Rachel Bach, who did not play against the Lady Bulldogs yesterday, proved too much for the visitors. The hard-hitting right-side player controlled the game and led her team to a 30-10 victory.
BC jumped out to an early lead in the second game, but Gardner-Webb came back to take the lead late in the game. Sophomore setter Jessica Brizzolara nailed two service aces in a row to help the Eagles regain the lead at 23-21. Her team would remain on top and win by a score of 30-23.
Fueled by the emotional second game, Gardner-Webb and Boston College opened the third game competitively. Boston College pulled ahead to win 30-17.
Bach led the Eagles with 12 kills and a .474 hitting percentage. Sophomore Liz Aron tallied nine kills, hitting .533 and senior Lauren Schwer anchored the BC defense with 14 digs.
Talia Ogle performed well for the Lady Bulldogs, with 12 kills and nine digs.
Boston College faces the University of Memphis in the final match of the Eagle Challenge at 7:00.
