CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - The Boston College volleyball team suffered a tough loss to Harvard Wednesday evening at Power Gymnasium in Chestnut Hill. The Crimson (2-7) came across the river to defeat the Eagles (7-7) three games to one.
Harvard jumped out to a quick start in the match, gaining the lead in the first game over the host Eagles. A late game rally by Boston College had the game tied at 29, but they could not keep the momentum going as Harvard nailed two points to win 31-29.
To start the second game, each team traded points to the 11 point mark. The Eagles slowly built a lead, finally taking over the game and winning decisively, 30-21.
The Eagles could not carry the rally, and were five points in the hole to open the third game. BC fought hard and came back to tie the game at 16. The competition was even until Harvard finally broke out to win 30-25.
Continuing their early-in-the-game dominance, Harvard began the fourth game up 8-1. Once again, the Eagles would not die and gained the lead 16-15. However, from there on, the Eagles could not best the Crimson. Despite tying the game at 29, Boston College lost by a score of 31-29.
Each team had a fairly low attack percentage, the Eagles hitting .144 and the Crimson hitting only .115. Highlights for the Eagles included double-doubles by Katie Andersen and Liz Aron and 17 kills from Rachel Bach. Allison Bendush of Harvard also recorded a double-double, while Kaego Ogbechie led the Crimson with 14 kills.
The Eagles will open their BIG EAST Conference schedule against the University of Miami on Saturday, September 28, 2002 at 11:00 in Power Gym.
