CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - The 2002-03 Boston College men's hockey schedule is highlighted by 24 HOCKEY EAST competitions, a trip to the University of Minnesota's holiday tournament and the 51st annual Beanpot. The schedule was announced by director of athletics Gene DeFilippo.
Head coach Jerry York and his Eagles face several tough non-conference opponents, as perennial powers Denver (Oct. 18) and Wisconsin (Oct. 25) visit the Heights. The team travels to Minneapolis, Minn., to play Bowling Green, who is coached by former Eagles' associate head coach Scott Paluch, in the opening round of the Dodge Holiday Classic on Dec. 27. With the University of Minnesota hosting the event, there is the potential for the past two national champions to square off in the final round of the tournament on Dec. 28.
Boston College makes the trip to South Bend, Ind., to face Notre Dame on Friday, Nov. 1. The game traditionally kicks off Rivalry Weekend, in which the Eagles and Irish clash in hockey and football.
Boston College begins the 2002-03 season on Oct. 13, when it travels to Amherst to face HOCKEY EAST rival Massachusetts.
The college hockey season wouldn't be complete without the Beanpot, and this season the Eagles are scheduled to face Northeastern in the opening round on Feb. 3. Boston College will face either Boston University or Harvard on Feb. 10.
After quarterfinal rounds are played at campus sights from March 6-8, the FleetCenter will host the HOCKEY EAST Tournament semifinals and finals on March 14-15.
With the NCAA expanding the number of teams selected for the tournament from 12 to 16, there are now four sights that host the NCAA Regionals, from March 28-30. The Frozen Four will take place at the HSBC Arena in Buffalo, N.Y., on April 10 and 12.
