CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - Two Boston College women's lacrosse players were honored by the BIG EAST as all-stars, according to an announcement made by the conference. Senior attack Lauren Miller (Timonium, Md.) was named to the All-BIG EAST First Team and freshman midfielder Jacklyn Yovankin (Medford, N.J.) was named to the All-BIG EAST Second Team.
The Eagles finished the season 8-9 overall, 1-5 in the BIG EAST.
Miller led the conference and was tied for fourth in the nation in overall scoring with 76 points - on 41 goals and 35 assists - and was a unanimous BIG EAST selection. For the third straight season, she started every game and led the Eagles in scoring, also adding 42 ground balls, 17 caused turnovers and 14 draw controls. In addition, she has the distinction as the only player in Division 1 women's lacrosse to register multiple double-digit point games this season, finishing with 10 points in wins over La Salle (Mar. 7) and Virginia Tech (Apr. 6). Her performance against Virginia Tech earned her BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week honors. A four-year starter, she is BC's all-time leader in points (272), goals (144) and assists (128).
Yovankin had a stellar year in the midfield in her first season at BC. She started all 17 games for the Eagles, scoring eight goals and adding six assists. She led the team in draw controls with 37, ranked second in ground balls with 47 and finished third in caused turnovers with 22. Her defensive leadership and outstanding play earned her BIG EAST co-Defensive Player of the Week honors for the week of April 1.
Georgetown's Erin Elbe was a unanimous selection as Attack Player of the Year. Notre Dame junior Danielle Shearer was named Midfielder of the Year and Rutgers junior Kristin Checksfield was honored as the Defensive Player of the Year. Hoya coach Kim Simons rounded out the awards, receiving Coach of the Year honors.
