DURHAM, N.H. - The Boston College women's lacrosse team lost to the 20th-ranked University of New Hampshire Wildcats, 15-3, on Sunday afternoon in rainy Durham, N.H. The goal total was the Eagles' worst offensive output of the season. Jessica Groszkowski scored five goals and added two assists for UNH.
With the loss, BC finishes the regular season 8-9 overall. New Hampshire improves to 11-5 on the season with the win.
The Wildcats played an inspired match, and controlled play throughout. UNH scored four goals in the first 15:07 to jump out to a 4-0 lead. Senior co-captain Lauren Miller's 41st goal of the season put BC on the board at the 13:53 mark, but the home side - seemingly less affected by the weather conditions than the Eagles - scored the next three goals to extend its lead to 7-1. Freshman Susan Breaznell's 35th tally of the season cut the lead to five with a little more than six minutes remaining in the first half. UNH would not be done scoring, however, and added two more goals before halftime to lead by seven goals at 9-2.
The second half saw much of the same one-sided play. New Hampshire scored three goals in 5:30 of the second frame to extend its lead to 12-2. Freshman Caitlin Bracken sparked BC off of the bench, scoring an unassisted goal - her seventh of the season - to cut the lead to nine, but that was all the offense the Eagles would be able to produce on the afternoon. With the game in hand, the Wildcats continued to control play and scored the final three goals of the match.
For the game, UNH out shot Boston College by a 2-1 margin, 34-17. Wildcat goalkeeper Danielle Martin made six saves in picking up the win. Freshman Michelle Lawson made 13 saves in net for the Eagles.
