Men's Lacrosse Defeats Holy Cross, 11-10

WORCESTER, Mass. - The Boston College men's lacrosse team ended its season in great fashion with a hard-fought 11-10 victory against Holy Cross this afternoon. The Eagles were led by Alex Gschwend and Ted Cella who each tallied two goals and one assist in the game. Chris Black and Ian Frankoski each added two goals for the Eagles and Rory Smith, Matthew Saffaii, and Mike Mucciolo each contributed one goal to the Eagle effort. The victory was the Eagles' second straight and brings their final record to 2-7. With the loss, Holy Cross fell to 1-14 on the year.
The Eagles came out of the gates quickly, as they outscored the Crusaders 4-2 in the first quarter and 5-2 in the second quarter. The score at the break was 9-4 in favor of the Eagles. However, the Eagles saw a different Crusader team in the second half. The Crusaders tightened up their defense allowing only seven second-half shots. The Crusaders also outscored the Eagles 6-2 in the second half. The Eagles were also outshot 40-34 on the day. However, Eagle goalkeeper James Karambay was outstanding in net, making 27 saves on the day while leading his team to victory.
Today's game marked the last time that the Boston College men's lacrosse team will participate as a Division I varsity sport. In the team's last year of existence, the Eagles battled through adversity and have ended their season with great success. The success of this year's team has only added to the great history of the program.
