I want to begin this week's diary by apologizing to everyone for taking so long to write. I understand that each week you all rush to your computers to read what Kim and I have to say about our games and I am sorry for the long wait. We have been traveling and playing so many games that it seems like school has been put on hold. Between making up assignments, writing papers, meeting for group projects, keeping my hand out of a cast and hanging out with Reptar, it has been hard to find the time to catch up on this diary. But wait no longer because it is time for my new entry.
Our season seems to have flown by. We have played almost fifty games already and we are more than half way through Big East play. Nothing has been easy for us. We have seen our good times and we have seen our more miserable times. Right now we have a good chance of making the Big East tournament but it is not going to be easy. We unfortunately broke a team tradition last weekend by going 2-2 instead of the usual 3-1. Syracuse surprised us a little by sweeping us in both games. The second game of the day was ours to take but until you make that third out in the last inning, anything can happen. In game two, we were up by two runs in the bottom of the last inning but Syracuse came fighting back and tied up the score. It took fourteen innings to break the tie and, unfortunately, it was Syracuse who came out on top. We saw great things from power slapper Jacqui Goodchild who, for those who do not know, uses a unique style of hitting by running down the first base line to hit the ball. Syracuse did use a unique combination of pitching to us or shall I say at us.
Coming out of the doubleheader with a hurt cleat, a bruised thigh, and an almost broken (it is just bruised) wrist, I was sure I had made someone on that team made. But when it all ended, we really took the hard road by losing both those games. Luckily, we were able to bounce back on Sunday and sweep UConn. Thanks to a clutch home run by Jennifer Asbury and a shutout pitching performance by Tekae we were able to stay on top.
Now, with our groupies behind us and our friends and families at our sides, we head into a key match up against Notre Dame this weekend. A split with them will keep our Big East Tournament hopes alive. We are excited, we are determined and we are ready. You better get there early because the first one hundred fans will receive the best seats on the field. Oh, and rumor has it the spring football game may be cancelled due to this huge softball event...but you didn't hear it from me. So come to Shea Field this Saturday at 12 p.m. to watch your BC Eagles take on Big East rival Notre Dame. See you there.
