With every loss, a team's strength is tested. With only two more games remaining, it is imperative that we learn from our recent mistakes and improve upon them. There is no need to dwell on what we cannot change. Instead, we must move past the Stanford and Rutgers games and commit ourselves to improving in our final competitions.
The Stanford game simply came down to desire. Tied at halftime, we began the second period a bit too confident. Stanford was clearly determined to avenge last year's loss. They played with heart and intensity, both of which we lacked. As disappointing as this loss was, at least we learned that skill and talent will only carry a team so far. Those attributes should not solely be relied on, as desire and heart are what really win games.
Rutgers was a particularly frustrating loss. We played hard, we played tough, but for whatever reason, we could not seem to get ahead. We were right with them the entire game, but we could not put all of the pieces together in order to walk away with a win. It was a well played game, but sometimes that just isn't enough. In close games, when you think you have nothing left, you must dig deeper, give more, and leave it all on the field. We lost by a seemingly insignificant two goals, which only further proves that extra effort is really what gets it done.
Although by the end of the season, every team hopes that all their minor problems have been worked out, this is not always a reality. We have known all along that we have the talent and the physical ability necessary to be competitive. In all of our losses, it's been our mental game that has been at question. With two games left, there is still plenty of time to show what we are capable of. We ARE going to go out strong and prove to everyone that BC never quits.
