FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - Freshman Maria Cicero (Elmhurst, Ill.) will take part in tonight's 5,000-meter run at the 2002 NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships at the Randall Tyson Track Center on the campus of the University of Arkansas.
Cicero, who held the country's fastest time in the 5,000 for the majority of the indoor season, will enter tonight's race with the fourth-fastest qualifying time. Back on January 15 at the Terrier Classic on the campus of Boston University, Cicero ran a time of 16:13.55. Out of the 17 participants in 5,000, she is the only freshman to qualify.
The only other runners to finish with a faster time than Cicero were North Carolina State's Kristin Price (16:06.60), Amy Beykirch (16:10.86) and Georgia Tech's Renee Metivier (16:10.71).
Tonight's race will be start at 7:20 p.m. (EST).
