CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - Freshman goaltender Matti Kaltiainen (Espoo, Finland) earned HOCKEY EAST Rookie of the Week on March 4 after his performance in the team's 2-1 loss to third-ranked New Hampshire on Sunday, March 3. He made 25 saves, including two one-on-none breakaways in the third period to preserve a one-goal deficit.
Kaltiainen's honor is his third league rookie honor of the year. He was honored in November after his back-to-back victories over Providence and then-undefeated Boston University. He also shared the award on Jan. 2 after stopping 50 shots in the Eagles' 5-1 championship game of the Silverado Shootout against Minnesota-Duluth.
Boston College's freshman class has had six HOCKEY EAST Rookie of the Week selections this year. Kaltiainen leads the group with three honors, while Ned Havern, Ryan Shannon and Dave Spina have each won the award once.
The Eagles begin their quest to win their fourth HOCKEY EAST Tournament title in five years when they face Maine in the quarterfinals of the tournament. The best-of-three series begins on Thursday, March 7 at Alfond Arena.
