We're back in the action. After two disappointing losses last week, we were able to bounce back, give Syracuse a scare, and pull away with a win at Fairfield. We pulled ourselves together and proved what we could do.
Although we lost to Syracuse by one, it was by far the best game that we have played all season. It was a total team effort, with everyone contributing and giving their all. We came out and played hard for an entire sixty minutes. We were confident, disregarding the fact that Syracuse was widely favored and ranked number eight in the nation. We never let up and we never got down on ourselves. We were supportive of each other and the intensity level was incredible. Although we are clearly not satisfied with our loss, we did prove a lot about ourselves in this game. We showed that we can compete with any team in the country. We proved that with some energy and emotion, we can accomplish great things. Most importantly, this game demonstrated just how talented our team is.
Yesterday, in the Fairfield game, we were not challenged quite as much. We jumped out to an early lead, going into the half with a five-goal advantage. In the second half, however, we seemed to get too relaxed, sitting back on our lead instead of increasing it. We did not play with the same intensity or fire that we did against Syracuse. Fairfield did play a good game, but we were the ones that let them back in it. Despite this lapse, we were able to pull through in the last few minutes, determined to walk away with a win. Although this game was not our best effort, it did teach us a few lessons. We learned that we can never be comfortable with a lead, nor should we be satisfied simply because the scoreboard says we are ahead. This game showed us that despite a breakdown, we do have the ability to pull away with a win. Ideally we never want to let up, but it is nice to know that we have the talent to come back. Regardless of how we played yesterday, we were determined to win, which is exactly what we did.
This past week showed a lot about our character. With two entirely different games and two different outcomes, we were able to learn a lot about ourselves and our play. This week was instrumental in building our confidence and proving to everyone that we have what it takes. As we head into the Hofstra game tomorrow, we now know that no matter what people think or what the scoreboard says, we can be on top. If we play to win, there is no limit to what we can do.
