CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - Four Boston College women's ice hockey players were honored by the ECAC as league all-stars, at the annual awards banquet held on Mar. 14. Junior defender Gen Richardson (Monroe, Conn.) was named to the All-Conference Second Team and senior assistant captain Kelly McManus (Dedham, Mass.) was an honorable mention. In addition, freshman goaltender Lisa Davis (Falmouth, Mass.) and sophomore defender Jessica Tychsen (Fifield, Wisc.) were named to the ECAC All-Rookie Team.
Richardson led the Eagles' defense in scoring with seven points on two goals and five assists and was a mainstay for a BC blue line that gave up 82 fewer goals than the previous season. McManus finished the season as the team's leader in points with 34 on 17 goals and 17 assists. She finished sixth in the conference (league games only) in scoring and was third in goals.
Davis was a model of consistency in her first year at BC. She started 30 of the Eagles' 32 games, and was the goalie of record in all 30 games. She set school records for goals against average in a season (2.59), save percentage (.918) and shutouts in a season (four). She also was the key factor in helping the team reduce its goals against average from 5.44 in 2001 to 2.83 this season. Tychsen was a force on the blue line for the Eagles, paired with Richardson on the top defensive line. Her four points were second on the team in defender scoring.
Northeastern's Brooke Whitney was named the ECAC Player of the Year. Niagara freshman Teresa Marchese-DelMonte took home Rookie of the Year honors and teammate Tania Pinelli was named the Goaltender of the Year. Niagara completed the awards with Head Coach Margot Page being recognized as the Coach of the Year.
