DURHAM, N.H. - The Boston College women's ice hockey team lost, 1-0, to the University of New Hampshire, on Saturday evening at the Whittemore Center. Stephanie Jones' goal midway through the first period was enough to lift the Wildcats to the victory, ending BC's season-high three-game winning streak. Freshman goaltender Lisa Davis made 37 saves for the Eagles, but BC was unable to solve Wildcat goalie Jen Huggon (16 saves).
With the loss the Eagles drop to 7-15-3 overall and 3-11-2 in the ECAC East. UNH improves to 16-10-2 and 9-5-1 in conference play.
Jones scored the only game of the match at 7:19 of the first period, on a pass Annie Fahlenbock. The tally, Jones' team-leading 16th of the season, was assisted by Fahlenbock and Kristi Shaw.
BC would try to mount the comeback, but Huggon was there to thwart any Eagle opportunity. BC's best chance came with less than two minutes left to play in the final period, when junior defender Gen Richardson had two scoring chances. Huggon, however, would be up to the task and turned aside both shots. With less than one minute to play, the Eagles pulled Davis for the extra skater but were unable to produce a goal.
For the game UNH outshot BC 38-16. Davis made 37 saves for the Eagles while Huggon stopped all 16 shots she faced.
BC returns to the ice on Tuesday, February 12 in the championship game of the 2002 Beanpot Tournament against Harvard, at Matthews Arena. Game time is set for 8 p.m.
