Spina Nets HOCKEY EAST Honor

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - Boston College freshman forward Dave Spina was honored as the HOCKEY EAST Rookie of the Week on Feb. 4. In one game last week, Spina scored one goal and added one assist in the Eagles' 3-2, overtime victory at UMass-Amherst on Friday.
In the first period, Spina scored BC's first goal of the game. Later, in the overtime period, Spina stole the puck in the corner behind the net and fed classmate Ryan Shannon for the game-winning goal.
A native of Mesa, Ariz., Spina is fourth on the team in scoring with 22 points (nine goal, 13 assists) in 27 games. In HOCKEY EAST games, he is tied for 12th in scoring with 17 points and is the second-highest freshman scorer.
The honor is Spina's first of the season. He is the third Boston College freshman to be named HOCKEY EAST Rookie of the Week, joining goaltender Matti Kaltiainen (twice) and Ned Havern.
Boston College is currently 13-12-1 overall and 6-10-1 in HOCKEY EAST games. The Eagles will face Boston University in the first round of the Beanpot tonight at 8 p.m. at the FleetCenter.
