McManus, Sanders Earn ECAC Weekly Honors

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - Boston College senior assistant captain Kelly McManus (Dedham, Mass.) was named the ECAC Eastern League's Player of the Week and freshman forward Kerri Sanders (Saugus, Mass.) earned the league's Rookie of the Week honors for the week ending February 24, 2002. The duo led the Eagles to a 1-1-1 record this week. McManus scored four goals and added one assist, while Sanders scored two goals and added two assists.
McManus led the Eagles in a weekend split with Maine. On Friday, she registered her first career BC hat trick, leading the Eagles to a 5-2 win over the Black Bears. The next evening, she scored a power-play goal and assisted on another goal in BC's 5-3 loss. For the season, McManus leads the team with 34 points on 17 goals and 17 assists. She currently ranks fourth in the league (conf. games only) in scoring (25) and third in goals (16).
Sanders was a key contributor in the Eagles' split with Maine. On Friday, she assisted on two McManus' goals, the game-winner and her third goal. On Saturday, the freshman scored two goals, keeping BC in the game. Sanders has played a major part in the recent offensive turnaround for the Eagles. Before she was moved to the first forward line, BC had averaged 1.87 goals per game in 23 games. Since her move six games ago, the team has averaged 3.00 goals per game.
The Eagles next take the ice against Providence College on March 2 at Kelley Rink. Game time is set for 2 p.m.
