Ealges Finish Fifth at Princeton Invitational Swim Meet

PRINCETON, N.J. - Host Princeton University took first place in both the men's and women's swimming and diving meets at its invitational tournament during the weekend of December 6 to December 8, 2002. Boston College finished fifth in the combined competition, against eight schools, with 732.5 points. The women's team led the Eagle charge with 533.5 points for a fourth place finish, while the men gathered 203 to finish eighth.
Boston College could not capture first place in any of the events, but turned in some impressive performances. Tim Tully continued to perform well. He placed sixth in the 200-yard backstroke and was also the first Eagle to finish the 200-yard butterfly, in 10th place. Brandon Twichell was the seventh finisher in the 200-yard breaststroke
For the women, Katie McCann finished sixth in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:06.23. Liz Byron took seventh in the 100-yard freestyle. Lauren Keibler was the top Boston College individual finisher, taking third in the finals of the 200-yard butterfly event with a time of 2:07.17. The 400-yard freestyle relay of McCann, Byron, Caitlin Healey and Nina Suryoutomo fell less than three seconds short of the Villanova relay squad for second place.
The Eagles will travel to Puerto Rico over the semester break for winter training. They will compete against St. John's University on Jan. 8, 2003 and return to the Heights to swim against the University of Rhode Island on Jan. 18 at 1 p.m.
