Women's Swimming Bests Rhode Island

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - The Boston College women's swimming and diving team captured an impressive win with a 178-109 victory over the University of Rhode Island on Saturday at the Flynn Recreation Complex.
The Eagles had several excellent performances, led by Lauren Keibler and Katie McCann, who each recorded two first-place finishes.
BC took an early 44-10 lead after three events by taking 1-2 in the 200 medley relay, the 1000 freestyle and the 200 freestyle. Caitlin Leahy helped extend the lead with an impressive 10:44.75 in the 1000-freestyle event.
A URI win in the 100 backstroke was followed by four more Eagle victories - 100 breast, Erin Fransen - 200 butterfly, Katie McCann - 50 freestyle, Nicole Duffy, and one meter diving - Jennifer Rhines. BC led 101-47 after the first diving break.
A second Rams victory in the 100 freestyle was followed by three more BC first place finishes - Liz Byron in the 200 back, Holly Boucher in the 200 breast and Katie McCann in the 500 freestyle.
Rhines won her second diving event of the day off the three meter board.
The visiting Rams took first and second in the 400 freestyle relay to bring the final score to 178-109.
BC looks ahead to Tuesday, Jan. 21 when it will compete against Boston University.
