MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - Sophomore Ryan Murphy tallied his second goal of the game at 13:24 of the third period to break a 5-5 tie and give Boston College a 6-5 win over Bowling Green in the opening game of the Dodge Holiday Classic at Mariucci Arena. Murphy's goal capped a four-goal third period for Boston College. The win improves the Eagles to 10-3-3 while the Falcons fall to 3-11-1.
After BC fell behind 3-0 after one period - its largest deficit this season after the first frame - the team crawled its way back into the game in the second period. Murphy was credited with his fourth goal of the season - on the power play - after a centering pass deflected of a Bowling Green defender into the net at 13:47 of the second period.
Junior Ben Eaves pulled the game to within one on his seventh goal of the season at 16:26 of the second period.
With Bowling Green taking a 4-2 only 22 seconds into the third period, sophomore John Adams tallied his second goal of the season to pull BC within one goal.
After Bowling Green extended its lead again, freshman Peter Harrold scored his first collegiate goal on a slap shot inside the Falcon blue line to pull BC within one. Sophomore Dave Spina tied the game at 5-5 at 12:48 of the third period.
Sophomore Matti Kaltiainen made 27 saves and senior Tim Kelleher made eight saves for the Eagles while Jordan Sigalet made 37 saves for the Falcons.
The win advances the Eagles to the championship game of the Dodge Holiday Classic on Saturday, December 28. BC will face host Minnesota at 8 p.m. in a match-up of the two most recent NCAA champions.
